Record-Breaking Budget for Renewable Energy
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband announced an increase of £500m in this year’s renewable energy auction budget, bringing the total to over £1.5bn.
“This is the highest budget ever for our flagship auction scheme, designed to drive investment in new green infrastructure and deliver clean power by 2030,” Miliband stated.

Accelerating Clean Energy Transition
The funding will expedite the production of low-carbon electricity for households and businesses, harnessing technologies such as wind turbines and solar panels. This move aims to fortify the UK’s energy independence and reduce vulnerability to global energy market fluctuations.
Offshore Wind at the Forefront
A significant portion, £1.1bn, is dedicated to offshore wind projects, reinforcing the UK’s position as a clean energy leader. The government’s partnership with the Crown Estate is expected to facilitate 20-30GW of new offshore wind developments by 2030.
Clean Energy Mission Board
The inaugural meeting of the Clean Energy Mission Board, chaired by Ed Miliband, underscored the government’s mission-driven approach to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
